2. Information we collect
Depending on how you use the store, we may collect:
- identity and contact details, including name, email address and telephone number;
- billing, delivery and address information;
- account credentials and preferences;
- order, payment-status, refund and customer-service records;
- communications, reviews and information you choose to send us;
- device, browser, IP address, cookie, log and website-usage information;
- marketing preferences and records of consent or opt-out; and
- fraud-prevention or verification information supplied by payment and security providers.
Payment providers process full card or banking details. AKIS does not intentionally receive or store complete card numbers or security codes.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly from you, automatically through the website and cookies, and from service providers involved in payments, delivery, fraud prevention, hosting, analytics and customer support.
4. Why we process information
We process personal information where it is necessary to:
- create and manage accounts;
- receive, verify, fulfil, deliver and support orders;
- process payments, refunds and returns;
- communicate service and security messages;
- answer enquiries and resolve complaints;
- prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents;
- operate, measure and improve our website and services;
- keep tax, financial and transaction records;
- comply with legal obligations and lawful requests;
- establish, exercise or defend legal claims; and
- send marketing where you have consented or where another lawful basis under POPIA applies.
5. Direct marketing
We will handle electronic direct marketing in accordance with POPIA. Where consent is required, we will ask for it before sending marketing. Existing customers may receive marketing about similar AKIS products where permitted by law and where they have not opted out. You may unsubscribe using the link or instruction in a message or email contact@akis.co.za. Opting out of marketing does not stop essential order, account or security communications.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
We use necessary cookies for features such as the basket, checkout, account login, security and preferences. With appropriate notice or consent where required, we may also use analytics and advertising cookies to understand website performance and the effectiveness of campaigns. You can manage optional cookies through our cookie controls and browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent parts of the store from working.
7. Who receives information
We do not sell personal information. We may share only what is reasonably necessary with:
- hosting, website, email and security providers;
- payment gateways, banks and fraud-prevention providers;
- couriers and fulfilment providers;
- accounting, legal, insurance and professional advisers;
- analytics, advertising and customer-support providers used by AKIS;
- law-enforcement, courts, regulators or public bodies where legally required; and
- a purchaser or adviser involved in a genuine business reorganisation, subject to appropriate safeguards.
Service providers are expected to process information only for the contracted purpose and to protect it appropriately.
8. International transfers
Some technology providers may store or process information outside South Africa. Where this occurs, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that a lawful POPIA mechanism and appropriate protection apply.
9. Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose collected, contractual and customer-service needs, fraud prevention, legal claims and applicable tax, accounting or other record-keeping duties. We then delete, destroy or de-identify it where reasonably practicable. Backup copies may remain securely isolated until overwritten through normal cycles.
10. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration or destruction. No online system is completely secure. If a qualifying security compromise occurs, we will notify affected people and the Information Regulator as required by law.
11. Your rights
Subject to POPIA and adequate proof of identity, you may:
- ask whether we hold your personal information and request access;
- request correction, updating, deletion or destruction where permitted;
- object to certain processing or request restriction;
- withdraw consent without affecting processing already lawfully performed;
- opt out of direct marketing;
- ask about the safeguards used for international transfers; and
- complain to the Information Regulator.
Send requests to admin@akis.co.za. We may retain information where law permits or requires us to do so and will explain a refusal where required.
12. Children
AKIS sells children’s clothing to adults and does not knowingly invite children to create accounts or provide personal information without a competent person’s authorisation. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to use the store with you. Contact admin@akis.co.za if you believe a child’s information was supplied without appropriate authority.
13. Third-party websites
Links or integrated services may lead to third-party websites governed by their own privacy notices. We encourage you to read those notices.
14. Complaints
Please contact admin@akis.co.za first so we can investigate. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) using the current details published at inforegulator.org.za.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect legal, operational or technology changes. The current version and effective date will be published on this page. Material changes may also be communicated through the website or by email where appropriate.
